Jose Camino-Cantu is a first-year master’s student pursuing Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. He is a Research Assistant at the IDEAS Lab working on contract-based design alongside model-based systems engineering (MBSE) applied to aircraft propulsion systems. His interests include aircraft design, aerodynamics, optimization, sustainable aviation, and unconventional configurations.
Jose earned his B.S.E. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan with minors in Computer Science and Mathematics. During his undergraduate studies, he was an active member of M-Fly, a design-build-fly project team where he focused on the aerodynamic design of the competition aircraft. During the summer of 2026, Jose worked on the Aircraft Configuration & Integration (AC&I) team within Boeing Product Development in Long Beach, California. There, he led a study on the conceptual design and performance of a large cargo freighter (LCF) and analyzed the aircraft-level performance benefits and integration challenges of natural laminar flow (NLF) surfaces.
Outside of aerospace, Jose is an avid hiker, backpacker, and rock climber. He also enjoys playing intramural soccer and reading books.
